We wanted to make sure that all of our adult supporters new about the upcoming benefit being held for our brother camp , Tennessee Teens Rock Camp on February 17th! East Nashville’s The 5 Spot will open its doors that evening to host a prom like you never had in high school!  There will be amazing live music by Jason Thomas, Jason Eskridge, and Kansas Bible Co., followed by same great music spun by D.J.’s Matt Smith and Chris Doubler. Admisssion to TNTRC’s Valentines Prom is only $7, but if you show up in your prom attire  your ticket to the dance is only $4!

Doors open at 9:00 and the music starts at 9:30 p.m. The event is 21+.

Happy New Year to all our wonderful SGRRC community! We cannot tell you how excited we are to be ushering in our tenth camping season. All of us that have been lucky enough to be part of SGRRC over the years are always humbled and thrilled to see how much we’ve grown. With registration for the 2012 camp session well under way, we want to thank all of you who participated in our holiday registration events. We are so excited to see the names of returning campers on the list as well as some new members to the SGRRC family!

On January twentieth at Patterson Park Community Center, we are hosting a Movie Premiere for our 2011 Showcase Film. We know you guys have been waiting a while for the showcase footage, but we promise, you will not be disappointed! The film looks amazing, and we can’t wait to show it to you on the big screen at Patterson Park! We hope to see as many campers and volunteers from our 2011 session at the event! What a great opportunity for a reunion, don’t you think? Our campers are the star of this show and we want you all there to celebrate! The event begins at 8:00 pm with doors opening at 7:30 pm. You can pre-order tickets here at sgrrc.org, and all attendees get a free download of the entire film to have for themselves! Also, all 2011 alumni and registered 2012 campers attend for free!

For those twenty-one and up, we have another Night of the Living Cover Bands event scheduled for March 17th (St. Patick’s Day!) at Wallstreet on the square in Murfreesboro. Stay tuned to our blog, twitter, and facebook for updates on what is sure to be an amazing show!

Lastly, we are so very proud to announce that YEAH’s co-ed camp, Tennessee Teens Rock Camp will be holding a second session in Murfreesboro this summer! Be sure to you let all your family and friends know that there is another opportunity to have the rock camp experience in Murfreesboro. 2011 Showcase Film Premier: January 20, 2012

Join us for a Nashville Under the Covers show at Mercy Lounge this Sunday, November 20th!! All volunteers get in for free, if you wear your camp t-shirt! Nashville bands will be taking the stage to cover other Nashville bands — which undoubtedly will include the work of some of our amazing volunteers. This Sunday’s event has been organized by one of our own, Steve Cross, who generously came up with the idea to have this show (which is also a celebration of his 30th birthday!) to benefit all YEAH summer camp programs. We will be opening volunteer registration this week, and we would love to have as many of our past volunteers as possible get together to celebrate the great work that we do! As a thank you, all past volunteers who come to the benefit wearing a rock camp t-shirt (any YEAH! camp will do) will gain free admission to the show! And if you sign up for information about volunteering for camps in 2012, you get a free camp t-shirt!

As you know from your past involvement in our rock camp programs, the experience of volunteering with our kids really can be a life changing event. It has been almost three months since SGRRC 2011, and we have a feeling you guys already miss camp as much as we do.  We wanted to take a few minutes to let everyone about all the exciting events we have coming up.  There are lots of opportunities to support Southern Girls Rock & Roll Camp and the great work that YEAH! has been up to.

Did you realize that the 2012 will our tenth anniversary year?  Our goal is to celebrate our already rich history by putting all we have into helping camp grow for future campers.  We are all so proud of the success of SGRRC and the impact it has had on so many people. Campers, volunteers, staff, performers, and panelists alike can’t help but leave the SGRRC experience inspired to create and be more involved in their communities and peer groups.  In that spirit, our first benefit of the 2012 season will showcase a movie directed by a rock camp volunteer Meredith Kotas. Meredith found herself creatively inspired by our amazing campers — so inspired, in fact, that she made a movie!  Girls Night Out is a “psychedelic horror comedy” starring our very own music department director Katie Blankenship and featuring other members of our SGRRC/YEAH! community.  On November 12th, Girls Night Out will be premiering at 5 Points in East Nashville.  There will be a few bands playing (To Be Announced!) and then the movie will be premiering on an outdoor screen.

The event will be from 2-6pm in the outdoor lot next to Bongo Java East.  The bands will play first, and then as the sun sets, we will all prepare to get nice and spooked as we celebrate the movie premiere.  Did we mention the cost for the event is only $5?  Also great, this is an all ages event, so all campers & friends can come out and enjoy the bands that afternoon.  The movie, however, is probably for more of a grown-up crowd, so we ask parents to use their discretion when it comes to the second half of the event.
